Theme: Equality and Education:

Collaborating to Combat Racism and Xenophobia in Europe

This is the third annual European conference on Equality in Education: Collaborating to Combat Racism and Xenophobia Across Europe. Previous conferences took place in Leeds (UK) and Verona (Italy).

The key question these conferences are concerned with is:

Why, in this age of mass education in Europe, have we been unable to achieve a society free of the fears, hatred and prejudices that have for centuries fuelled and fed racist violence?

The conference organisers believe that education can result in new ways of living and relating to each other in the multiracial Europe of the 21st century. They share a commitment towards the creation of education systems based upon the principles of equality and justice, and which have strong global perspectives that move beyond narrow allegiances based upon skin colour, religion, nation or culture. The conference hopes to influence those developing education policy and to encourage the debate around European legislation on race and racism.

Who should attend?

The conference will be of particular interest to teachers, educationalists, community groups, students, researchers and anyone in the frontline of educational and social change.

The conference language will be English.
