Welcome to International Beatle Week 2001

This is when the party starts — as Beatle fans from all over the world begin to arrive in Liverpool. The Cavern Pub begins its week-long festival of live Beatle music, and Beatle bands will be playing throughout the day. On Thursday evening there will be a special Beatleweek Gala at the Liverpool Town Hall in the city centre. This was the scene for the 1964 homecoming of the Fab Four where they were treated to a civic reception prior to the premiere of their film ‘A Hard Day’s Night’. You will be able to see the plaques which denote that each of The Beatles, individually, were given the ‘Freedom of the City’. Tickets are strictly limited and this event will be hosted by The Lord Mayor of Liverpool and will feature music from Los Beat 3 from Venezuela and fittingly, A Hard Night’s Day, from Texas USA — two top bands to begin the festivities Then on to the Cavern Club to see one of Latin Americas very top bands — Comitatus — from Brazil.

The music of Lennon and McCartney will feature sets from two of England’s top Beatle performers. Jon Keats of Instant
Karma will perform the work of solo John Lennon and Bob Bartey of Banned on the Run will be running through a set of his personal favourite Paul McCartney songs. This show will be their only performances during Beatleweek so make sure you don’t miss them! The venue is The Barcelona, which is but a two minute walk from the Adelphi Hotel. The evening show will be at The Royal Court Theatre and will feature The Beatles Years Show’ hosted by the Overtures. The Overtures have proven to be one of the all-time attractions at Beatleweek and anybody who has witnessed their multi media show will tell you its a must see event The band will take us on a whistle stop tour of all that was happening in the world of Beatle music, music in general, fashion, politics, TV et al during those heady years from 1962 to 1970. An obvious highlight and the opportunity to see this show during Beatleweek. After this gig it’s back to the Adelphi Hotel for a Samba Party featuring some of Brazil’s finest, Hocus Pocus, Clube Big Beatles and Comitatus. Definitely the best line-up we have ever had on a Friday during Beatleweek. Book early!

LIPA has now become the home of the annual Liverpool Beatles auction which will take place on the Saturday morning. (Beatle fans will know that LIPA is the performing Arts School that is housed in Paul and George’s old School, The Liverpool Institute). The auction begins at 900am and is organised on behalf of Beatleweek by the Beatles Shop (0151 236 8066) and all of the fans on a Cavern City Tours package (except package 4) will receive a voucher which can be exchanged for a catalogue at the auction. In the afternoon its off to Chavasse Park in the City Centre for an outdoor extravaganza called Rock n Roll Circus’. This event will parody the 1968 Rolling Stones Spectacular, which featured John and Yoko and many other top acts of the era. Our concert will feature the world’s greatest Stones tribute band ‘The Counterfeit Stones’, a Jethro TuII band featuring original members, The Maximum Who and the only performance this week of the world’s most famous John Lennon impersonator, the one and only Gary Gibson. This will be a ‘Rockin’ afternoon to top them all. In the evening it’s back to our home-from-home the Royal Court Theatre for the second of our three spectacular evening shows. The concept of this show is The Beatles Live and will feature five thirty minute spots featuring five distinctly different phases of The Beatles careers The phases cover sets from the Star Club Hamburg the Cavern Club Liverpool Hollywood Bowl 1964 Candlestick Park 1966 and the Rooftop Concert, 1969. The bands will include The Beats from Argentina, The Fab Four from Australia, Revolution from LA Hard Nights Day from Texas and the Snails from Moldova This is a spectacular line up

Sunday is Convention day from mid-day to midnight. This year the focus of the Convention will be on the year 1961. As a special 40th Anniversary Celebration we have managed to arrange a star studded line up the likes of which has never been put together anywhere in the world arid quite frankly is not likely to be repeated ever again. The Convention will host appearances by Beatle Pete Best, Klaus Voormann, Astrid Kirchherr, Decca’s Mike Smith and Beatle s first manager Allan Williams Astrid and Klaus will be individually exhibiting their work during Beatleweek and it is very exciting that Liverpool will be able to stage these exhibitions. Of course the Convention will also feature the usual madness and mayhem including live music from over twenty bands in a day, film shows, flea market. quizzes, competitions etc etc. After the Convention there will be an Unplugged Festival which will feature short sets from over thirty bands in the four bars in the Adelphi Hotel, and yes of course fans will be encouraged to get up and perform as well.

The region’s premier free festival which typically attracts in excess of 200,000 in a day! The whole city comes alive as the Mathew Street Festival begins at 11am and over 200 bands perform in one day in every bar and club and restaurant in the city centre. There are six huge outside stages planned this year and there will be something for everyone - pop, rock country, soul, indie, blues, jazz, folk, world, samba and yes of course Beatles music. Indeed Beatles music and heritage underpins the whole event, and they continue to be as popular as ever!
Once the Mathew Street festival is over it’s straight back to the Royal Court for the highlight of the whole week - The Fab Faux Finale Party. The Fab Faux have quickly established themselves as the most popular band that has ever played Beatleweek in the last twenty years. A show from New York’s finest will blow you away. We couldn’t think of a better finale to the weekend.
After the Royal Court it’s back to the Adelphi Hotel for a VIP party where the Beats from Argentina will rock the night away It will be a long long day and a hard day s night but you II love every minute of it!

Tuesdays used to be a wind down time and a time to bid tearful farewells to friends both old and new from all over the world Not anymore! The Cavern Pub and the front of the Cavern will be stompin’ one more time to the sounds of live music featuring bands from Beatleweek Entry is free However the real coup is the event at the back of the Club where one of the world’s greatest Beatle bands will perform two shows one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The ‘1964’ Tribute Show is awesome, the band recreate the sound and look of the early Beatles shows If you weren't lucky enough to see the Beatles perform live, well this has got to be the next best. thing. A Iook-alike / sound alike treat for all fans. The band will be flying in from the States just to perform on this day and we’re sure they will give a performance to remember, they always do.
By the time the weekend has ended, over 200 bands will have performed (over 60 of them Beatle bands). The best Beatle Party the world has ever seen.
