Offers many different activities. Children with different skills can find challenges at their level of development.
The experience that the school has from the outdoor play area shows some clear indications. Pupils with pooor motoric skills seem to seek the jungle area and have shown remarkable improvements in the co-ordination of their body. There are several integrated pupils with mental disabilities in the school and they are frequent users of the outdoor play area.
The pupils themselves say that since the jungle was created there is no bullying in the school. Even if the bullying has not completely disappeared, teachers also see a clear tendency in a positive way in the pupil-to-pupil relation. Pupils who earlier just wandered around in the school-ground during breaks have now found an environment that appeals to their urge to be active.
One has also noticed a greater mixture of different age groups in play. This creates security among the children and ties the children together as a unit.
There were some accidents at the start of the project, but the children soon got aware of their own limitations and have been clever to adjust the speed and movement of their play so to avoid injuries.
In the table tennis area the children have made their own rules, organised their play and created a handicap system in accordance to the level each player is at.Creating this play area has also been very positive in the school-parents relationship.
The area is also used much after-school hours. The local sports' club uses the area as part of its' sports' school.
